GEO-8 has now finished for 2008 and will be returning in 2009 but here's what the event's all about:
For everyone involved in geospatial data"GEO-8" provides a new umbrella title to combine the well established World of Geomatics with GIS Innovations, a new event. GEO-8 will be the UK's biggest event focussed solely on ALL aspects of geospatial information - from measurement and data collection to the many uses of geographical information. As the GI Panel's report to government says "Place Matters" and Coventry will be the place in 2008.
Whether you are a GIS professional, a surveyor, a geomatician or an end user of geospatial information, this is the unique event for you.
Why GEO-8?In the built and natural environments geospatial technologies are widely used and relied upon for mapping, recording, modelling, analysing and presenting location based information.
These activities and technologies underpin well over £1 billion worth of business annually in the UK. Government - both national and local - depends increasingly on geographical information, GI. The technologies that drive GI are developing rapidly throughout business and the public sector. New applications, sensors and systems become available almost daily: some driven by legislation, others by the constant need to drive up efficiency and drive down costs.
From utilities, transport, local and central government, construction, to crime and accident investigation, farming and archaeology, geospatial information has never been in such high demand. GI technologies now form a core and essential business tool.
Since 1997 World of Geomatics has been the annual event for everyone involved in measurement, mapping, processing, presentation and modelling geospatial data. For 2008 it widens its appeal with GIS Innovations to bring in those who use the information systems that rely on geographical locations or distributions.
If your business or organisation collects, manages or uses geospatial information this is the event for you.
Why should you attend?GEO-8 is essential attendance for professionals managing, maintaining or collecting geospatial information, including:
